Choosing between signing up for a bundled package (fibre + mobile) or fibre alone can make a big difference to the price and to the services included. We’re going to analyse which option works out better value in different scenarios and compare the prices and features of current plans from various companies. Generally speaking, signing up for fibre optic alone tends to have a lower monthly cost<\/strong> than a bundled package, since you’re not paying for additional services. In fact, in Spain you can find fibre-only tariffs from around \u20ac17\u201320 a month, while full convergent packages (which include fibre + mobile and sometimes TV) easily exceed \u20ac50 a month. This is because bundled tariffs add the cost of the mobile line (and other extras such as television), pushing the price up. The advantage of a fibre-only connection<\/strong> is that it lets you keep costs to a minimum and gives you the flexibility to choose other services separately (for example, taking out a low-cost mobile line with a different operator). What’s more, many internet-only tariffs don’t require long minimum contract terms<\/strong>, unlike packages, which typically involve 12 or 24 months of commitment. <\/span><\/p>\n

That said, this doesn’t mean it’s always better to sign up separately<\/strong>. In certain cases, operators offer discounts for combining services<\/strong>, meaning that adding a mobile line to your fibre increases the total cost very little. In other words, if you need both home internet and a mobile phone anyway, a unified package can work out cheaper than taking out each service separately. For example, some low-cost companies let you add a mobile line for only \u20ac3\u20135 more a month compared with the fibre-only tariff, which represents a big saving compared with taking out a standalone mobile tariff at the standard price. In terms of convenience, convergent packages also simplify billing<\/strong> (a single bill and a single provider) and make support easier to manage. <\/span><\/p>\n

Your choice should be based on your needs<\/strong>: if you only need an internet connection at home (for example, for working from home, studying or entertainment) and you’ve already sorted out your mobile (or you don’t use it much), the cheapest option will be fibre only. On the other hand, if you need both, it’s worth looking at integrated offers, since many represent excellent value for money when you make use of all the services included. Remember also to consider factors such as coverage<\/strong> (not every company has fibre available in every area) and the minimum contract term<\/strong>. Some convergent operators don’t impose a minimum term, while others do. For example, O2 and Pepephone offer packages with no minimum term<\/strong>, while Digi, Lowi, Simyo, Yoigo and M\u00e1sM\u00f3vil usually require around 3 months of commitment, and other operators up to 12 months.
